FAQ: Yurina Japanese food in Tallinn
Can I see the menu?
Of course! It is updated daily on the main page. The dietary preference information is also on the menu.
You can place your dinner order for another day in the future. Just select your preferred pick-up or delivery time in the checkout page.
Can I pay at the door in cash?
Please kindly make card payment through online checkout. This is the most secure and hygienic way of payment for both of us.
Why there isn't sushi on the menu?
There are reasons why it was best not to offer sushi in Tallinn. Read on here on my blog post!
I also talked about sushi on Delfi TV, which is also viewable on the blog post.
What is Yurina? Is it a restaurant?
Yes in an English sense. It was supposed to be a restaurant if Covid-19 infection was not a concern. There are 2 tables to accommodate up to 9 people. It is planned to avail onsite dining experience once the 14-day infection rate in Estonia becomes stabilised under the level of our first lockdown (50 per 100,000 people).
Yurina operates in the dining room of chef Yuri's residence, complying with all Estonian legal requirements to function as a catering facility and obtaining operational certificates as you saw just under the menu on the main page.
That is why it used to have the name "Yurina jaapani restoran", but I just got to know on a snowing day in April 2021 that "restoran" in Estonian refers to a high-end, fine dining type of restaurant where suited up waiters are lined up and most likely a sommelier would come for a perfect pairing of drinks and dishes.
This is why I renamed it as "Yurina jaapani köök" (meaning, a Japanese kitchen) to avoid any confusion.
Upon pick-up, why should I wait outside the building?
Due to the Covid-19 restrictions, restaurants are prohibited from inviting customers to the inside of the building. Physical contacts must be limited to minimum, outdoor, with a mask on.
If you have doubts, please see the official announcement form the government where it clearly rules, "All stores except stores that sell essential goods must be closed. Other stores can sell and issue goods in the outdoor area of the store."
What's behind the name?
The chef's name is Yuri, but this Japanese name sounds to be a male name in Estonian.
When we pronounce Yurina in Estonian, it means "as Yuri" and also sounds more like a female name.
